Entry

Each floor has an entry door with a keypad lock.

To unlock the door, enter your 4-digit code and press the check mark. To lock the doors from the outside, press the Yale button or the check mark.

The Kitchen

• Please place hot pots and pans on the black silicone pads or stone trivets. Do not place hot items directly on the counters, as they may leave burn marks. Thank you!

• There is a step stool in the small closet near the kitchen island if you need it to more easily reach the upper shelves.

Bifolding Doors

• The door panels with the handle can be used like regular doors.

• To open the doors fully, first open the handle section, then unlatch and fold back the remaining panels. Up is unlatched. Down is latched and secured.

• When closing the doors, latch the folding section first, then close the handle section.

Cooling

• There are AC units in each bedroom. To conserve energy and keep our solar batteries well charged in case of a power outage, please turn off ACs when you’re out for the day.

• And be mindful to close windows and exterior doors if the ACs are on. That will drain the batteries fast. 

The Septic System

• To keep the septic system functioning properly, only moderate amounts of toilet paper may be flushed down the toilets.

• It is extremely important to moderate the amount of toilet paper use. Pipes are narrower here, and can easily clog and back up.

• Wipes, feminine products, paper towels, and all other items must go in the trash. These items will cause the septic system to back up.

Water, Drinking Water, and Water Pressure

• Villa Playa has a newly installed whole-house water filtration system and hot water heater, as well as a reverse-osmosis filtered drinking water faucet at the kitchen sink.

• The hot water heater is on the ground level, so it may take a minute or two for hot water to reach the upper floors.

• As with many homes in Puerto Rico, the water pipes are smaller, which can affect water pressure. Using up to two showers or faucets at once will provide the best water pressure.

• We also have a large backup water tank to keep the house supplied during water outages, which do occasionally occur in Puerto Rico.

Solar Power

• Villa Playa is solar powered under normal use. Heavy electricity use—especially at night or on cloudy days—can drain the batteries more quickly, leaving less reserve for a power outage. Please turn off ACs and lights when not in use to help keep the batteries charged.

• If there is a power outage, please be mindful of energy use to preserve battery power and keep everyone comfortable.

Saltwater Pool

• Pool and beach towels are in the living room.

• See Pool Rules one page 6

• Please rinse off all sand before entering the pool.

• Please use plastic cups and dishware on the pool deck and in the pool area.

• The pool is professionally cleaned every Wednesday morning, usually between 7 and 9 a.m.

• As we are surrounded by lush tropical plants and wildlife, it is normal for some leaves and other natural debris to make their way into the pool. There is a pool net behind the outdoor bathroom that you are welcome to use.

A quick note about the pool: The pool deck has been newly renovated, while the coating inside the pool is older and has some discoloration, along with a few cement marks from the deck renovation. We want to assure you that the pool is clean; these marks are purely cosmetic.

The Beach

• Pool and beach towels are in the living room.

• Beach chairs and umbrellas are under the staircase outside the studio.

• Masks, snorkels, and fins are in the cabinet next to the beach chairs.

• There is also a cooler for your use.

• Please return beach equipment to these locations after use.

Check Beach Conditions Before Swimming

Ocean conditions can vary significantly from beach to beach and from day to day. Before swimming, please check the Swim Safe Puerto Rico beach forecast for current surf and rip-current conditions.

The Grill

• The grill by the pool is ready for you to use. Grill tools are provided.

• Grill tools are in the upper left hand drawer of the kitchen island.

• There is a grill cleaning tool

• Please replace the black cover over the grill after you’re finished and the grill has cooled.

• If you use the grill tools, please leave them in the kitchen at the end of your stay so we can ensure they are cleaned and ready for the next guests.

Washer and Dryer

• The washer and dryer are on the third floor, in the closet near the desk.

• Please be sure all items are sand-free before washing.

Trash

• Extra trash bags are under the kitchen sink.

• We recommend taking trash out daily to avoid fruit flies and odors.

• All trash can be placed in the orange bins at the bottom of our property, along the road.
